I just received my rose gold American Express travel credit card. I’m excited for the 50,000 point sign up bonus after I spend $2,000 in 3 months. I wanted to get this card because I hope to travel and I like to eat out. And it’s quite easy to hit that target spending amount considering how unreasonably high my rent is. Why not pay for a roof over my head while simultaneously earning points towards a future vacation? Another important question is how does this compare with my Chase Reserve credit card?
The perks that I find most exciting:
- 50,000 point sign up bonus that I mentioned earlier
- $120 statement dining credit (the fine print says Amex will credit $10 each month at selected places like Ruth’s Chris, Cheesecake Factory, and more)
- $100 airline credit at select airlines (American, Southwest, Delta, Alaska, etc.)
- 4x points on dining AND grocery purchases
- No foreign transaction fees
- Baggage insurance
- Purchase protection
The annual fee is $250. Considering that I have the Chase Reserve card, the annual fee for the Amex Rose Gold Premier credit card is almost half the hefty reserve annual fee ($450). Weighing the benefits of the Chase Reserve which offers Priority Pass and $300 annual travel credit, I think the $450 annual fee may have some justification. If you managed to get the Chase Reserve credit card while the 100,000 point sign up bonus was offered, then you got a great deal. However, if you’re not getting that sign up bonus, I would get this Amex Rose Gold Premier card instead.
I think it’s awesome that Amex is offering this credit card in the color of Rose Gold. It’s quite basic or trendy depending on which side of the rose gold debate you’re on. If you ask me, it is on the more glamorous side, but is it so wrong to like some sparkle in your credit card “folio”? I just like how the card is metal regardless of the color. The metal touch feels substantial. The credit card arrives in a special encased paper mailer in a sleeve.
I’ve called Amex before and I found the customer service representative to be very professional and respectful.
I find that the website for Amex is not as user friendly on my phone. I couldn’t verify my phone number easily. I had to do it on the computer. When I tried it on my phone, the Amex website would show an error message that my phone number hasn’t been verified. There wasn’t a way to verify my phone number on the mobile web version of the website! I have yet to try the Amex app though. Perhaps it is easier to manage my account through that interface.
American Express isn’t accepted everywhere. Carrying a back up credit card may be necessary.
The 50,000 sign up bonus is a great amount of points to combine with my Ultimate Rewards through Chase. The Amex Rose Gold credit card offers 4x points from dining! My dear fellow foodies, that’s 4x the points for every meal! We’ll be flying first class in no time with this 50,000 bonus plus all the points we’ll get from our dining and grocery shopping, right? Maybe I can finally book that awesome friends and family vacation.
